Score and critique

Sun Nov 22, 2009, 6:36 AM
I've been watching quite a lot of reviews and actually immersed myself into the reviewer culture lately.. Watching old classics like siskel and ebert, comparing internet reviews like GT, IGN, GameSpot and so on.

When i compare a lot of these big names on the internet, i always notice that most of them are keeping scores.
I'd quite yahtzee and say "I don't keep scores, cause i don't think that a complex opinion can be represented numerically", and then just get on with it.. But i want to give my own opinion of what i think of scores on reviews.
I for one feel that the one giving scores, while still professional, throws away any humanity in them. I'm serious.. It's very systematic when people give score and just treats everything as if you can give a number on how much it's worth..

Games, movies, pictures, videos, animations and you name it shouldn't be scored.. It's the experience of a medium, the details of it's pro's and cons, that matters the most, and if you ask me.

It's by far better to just end with just, i liked it, i hated it, or some other maybe or anything really.. But when it all comes down to it, thumbs up and thumbs down is the best way to not recommend or recommend.
A review and critique should not put values on things..

****

But now i guess i'm just rambling..

I've been giving a lot of critique on work that people on DA has done the past month or so, and so far, i've gotten great response from pretty big people on this site.

Things like, I sound like a professional and what not.
So yea.. I might up making one for any of the ones that i'm watching! (:
Or if you just want to me to make one for you, just leave a comment on my DA page i guess.

There really isnt that much to tell about me. Even tho the reason for me starting drawing in the first place has a deep history behind it.

I love telling stories through my pictures and painting up an atmosphere with light, background and colors. n.n

I kind of left the game designer behind me though. But i wouldn't mind working like that for a few years though.
I'm more into becoming a teacher of high degree, and a scientist.
:iconmaplecacaman:
